ELABORATION
The origin of this variety is relatively recent as it was included in the DOCa Rioja register in 2009, a register that had remained unchanged since the founding of the Control Board in 1925. Originating from the natural mutation of a red grape variety in the municipality of Murillo de Río Leza in 1988, the DOCa has placed special interest in developing this grape as a complement to Viura, and also as a letter of introduction to the white varieties in Rioja. Since the origin of this variety, Mateo Ruiz has been committed to its qualities and potential, as it is a new and differential product. Together with the CIDA, he started an R+D+I project in his vineyards, resulting in the first experimental hectare by means of natural propagation. Subsequently, it developed this variety, unique in the world and 100% native to La Rioja.
TASTING NOTE
In view, greenish yellow, clean and bright. In nose, very intense and fresh. Notes of stone fruits, white peach and Paraguayan peach, which combine with tropical fruits such as passion fruit and mango and certain citric touches. Finally, aromas of white flowers such as jasmine, lily and magnolia appear. On the palate, complex, sweet and with a very well balanced acidity. Very long aftertaste in which the fruity notes merge with a slightly bitter finish that invites you to continue drinking.
UNCONSCIOUS
A line of wines with the winery’s most modern and casual style. It consists of three single-varietal wines made from varieties that are native to La Rioja, but which are rarely made separately. They have been given a casual and transgressive image, with a nod to the new trends in wine consumption, and are a departure from the classic and pigeonholed lines of traditional Rioja wines.
